WHAT IS?
When more than 2 fighters are enrolled in a category, you can with advantage let all the fighters (in the pool) fight each other. This separates the pool system from the more common cup system, where one is out, once a fight is lost.
WHY?
The Pool system has several up sides. One is that everybody is ensured more fights with better experience and outcome from the tournament, now one has undergone determined preparations and often travelled far to participate. Another advantage is that one is less vulnerable from bad luck in the drawing of lots, should one meet the later gold winner in the first fight. With the pool system one gets more chances.
HOW?
If a category has less than 6 entrants, everybody meets everybody in the same pool.
If numbers of entrants in a category are from 6 – 10 fighters, the category is divided into 2 blocks, each of which has their own separate pool fights. Only the 2 best from each block go forward to the semi-finals. Here the best from block A faces the 2nd best from block B and vice versa. Both losers from the semi-finals get a bronze medal, whereas the winners square up for the final.
If numbers of entrants in a category are from 11 – 20 fighters, the category is divided into 4 blocks, each of which has their own separate pool fights. Again the 2 best in each block move forward, only this time because of the 4 blocks an inter medium round is incorporated. So the 2 best from Block A and B form a new pool with 4 fighters facing each other. Do observe that each and one in this new pool have already had 1 fight. The 2 best from this inter medium pool go forward to the semi-finals.
In the case of equality in the number of victories between 2 fighters, it is the outcome of their mutual fight, which is decisive. In the case of 3 fighters with an equal number of victories (they have won over each other on shifts) points from the individual fights are counted. If some of the points here derive from that an opponent has not fought, these points are taken out from the calculations. The one with the most points is 1st. To decide, who is 2nd, it is the winner of their mutual fight, between the last two fighters.
In case the 3 fighters have an equal number of points, it is the lightest fighter, who wins.
